Ella was born in Artarmon in December 1919, and there attended school and became a very responsible student. After the outbreak of World War two, on the 22 September 1942 Ella enlisted in the Australian Army Medical Womens Services and became a Nurse’s Aide. She worked in this capacity during the war, and completed her term with the Unit on Morotai Island in 1945, and was discharged on the 27 February 1946.
