Corporal Henry Narka (Gumming)

Henry William Narka was born on the 22 October 1912 in Newcastle -- NSW,of Asian perantage. Little is known of his early youth, but we do know that he was a gifted Motor Mechanic.

 

World War Two had commenced, and the Army needed skilled tradesmen, so on the 8 August 1942 Henry enlisted in the AIF. He was attached to the 2/5 Australian General Hospital to help undertake the maintenance of the Ambulances and other vehicles used by the Unit. He served with the Unit in various theatres of war, and in March 1945 was posted with the Unit to the Morotai Island conflict.

 

Henry served with distinction and was discharged on the 19 November 1945.
