Herbert (Huck) Findlay

NX18754

Herbert Findlay or Huck as he preferred to be known as, was born in Scotland in December 1913. Little is known of him really, but on the 29 May 1940 he enlisted in the AIF, and was attached to the 2/5 Australian General Hospital Unit. In October 1940 he sailed with the Unit on board the Queen Mary, bound for overseas duties.

He was one of those who volunteered to stay behind and tend the wounded when the Unit was captured by the advancing German Army at Ekali in April 1941.

He was to remain a Prisoner of War until he was repatriated in October 1943, and was finally discharged on 7 September 1944.
