William Bartlett, better known as Vic, was born in Sydney on 2 October 1917.

 

With the outbreak of the Second World War, Vic enlisted in the AIF on the 6 June 1940, and was assigned to the 2/5 Australian General Hospital. When this Unit was captured by the advancing German Army on the 27 April 1941, Vic was among those taken as Prisoners Of War.

 

He was finally repatriated in October 1943
