Pte Ruth Wendy Yates

NFX146446

Ruth Wendy Yates was born on 22 March 1918 in Burwood, NSW, but was known to her many friends as Wendy. It is apparent that she may have had Hospital training because during WW2 as the acute shortage of trained Nurses and Staff became evident, Wendy enlisted in the AAMWS -- Australian Army Medical Womens Service.

Wendy was assigned to the 2/5 Australian General Hospital and in March 1945 was with the Unit when it was deployed to Morotai Island to attend to the wounded POWs coming in from the various Japanese POW camps. Wendy was finally discharged on the 4 January 1946.
