Sister Jean Gay
Jean Margaret Gay was born on the 18 September 1914 in Sydney. Little is known of her growing up or of her Nursing Career, but on the 29 June 1940, as a fully trained Nurse, Jean answered the call of duty and enlisted in the Australian Army. Jean was attached to the newly formed 2/5 Australian General Hospital and sailed with the Unit for overseas duty.
Unfortunately Jean was struck with a viral Infection and passed away on the 13 February 1941 in the Hospital at Gaza.
She was buried at the Gaza War Cemetery with full military honours.
